Job description

We have the opportunity for seasonal field surveyors to join our team, on a full-time, fixed-term basis throughout the core survey season (April – October 2026).

This entry-level position is ideal for individuals looking to take their first steps into a career in ecological consultancy. You’ll gain valuable, hands-on experience by supporting our ecologists in delivering a variety of habitat and protected species surveys.

Most of your time will be spent assisting with bat emergence surveys during the evenings and reviewing infrared camera footage in the office. As part of a small, experienced, and growing consultancy, you’ll have the opportunity to be involved in all aspects of our work.

The position is full-time (40 hours per week, 8 hours per day) and based between the office and field. While this is a fixed-term contract, there may be potential for the role to become permanent

The requirements

As this is a true entry-level position, no specific professional experience is required — we’re looking for the right individuals who align with our vision and values.

The ideal candidate would have:

  • A degree in ecology or related field, or higher education qualification (or be working towards one), and/or have suitable relevant experience, which could include voluntary or non-professional experience;
  • Based in Sussex or Surrey, within commutable distance from our Slinfold office.
  • The ability and willingness to travel to various survey sites across the South East of England;
  • Be self-motivated, organised and have good attention to detail;
  • A valid (clean) driving licence and access to a vehicle insured for business use;
  • Some experience of protected species surveying.

Advantageous:

  • A Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) Card;
  • Eligible for qualifying level of membership to the charted Institute of Ecological and Environmental Management (CIEEM);

To apply for this position, please email your CV and covering letter to [email protected].
